Having to deal with the legal issues that can arise upon the breakdown of a personal relationship can be one of life's most traumatic experiences. Unlike most other legal problems those involving conflict with a former spouse or domestic partner can be made even harder to deal with because of the intense emotional issues that can arise. When in such a situation it is vital that you don't make any decisions that you may later regret without the advice and guidance of an experienced family lawyer.
Peter McLeod has been practising in the area of Family Law since he was first admitted to legal practice in 1980. Over the years he has handled countless family law cases ranging from small property matters through to complicated cases involving family trusts, incorporated family businesses with examination of their books and the following of "money trails" to discover hidden bank accounts and assets. He has also acted in hundreds of "children's issues" cases concerning child residence, access and important child welfare issues.
An important recent development in the family law has been the "opening up" of the law to provide equal rights in family law property cases to couples in de facto or domestic relationships at both a State and Federal level. It is now more important than ever that couples in such relationships obtain legal advice about their rights and entitlements both before commencing and after any breakdown of such a relationship.
We can provide experienced family law legal representation for you in the following areas:
divorce, property division, spousal maintenance, child support, pre-nuptial and nuptial agreements (for both married couples and for de facto couples), property settlements and agreements for same sex couples, childrens issues/parenting arrangements, intervention orders and injunctions for domestic violence or other forms of abuse within a relationship.
We are always prepared to accept family law cases that are eligible to be funded by Victoria Legal Aid and Mr. McLeod (who is a member of Victoria Legal Aid's Family Law Simplified Grants Panel) will be able to tell you whether your case would qualify for legal aid once you have provided enough information at interview.
If your case is not eligible for legal aid and concerns property we may be able to come to an arrangement with you for deferred payments of our fees and other legal costs of your case until the end of the case, once assets have been divided and if necessary sold. Again we can discuss this possibility with you at interview.
