Criminal Law

Since 1980 Peter McLeod has been acting in criminal law cases in the Magistrates, County and Supreme Courts of Victoria.

Over this time Peter has represented literally thousands of clients who have found themselves on the wrong side of the law in cases that range from the relatively minor through to the most serious matters including murder, rape, substantial robberies and thefts, and major drug cases.

As a junior Solicitor at Sayers & Buller in the 1980's Peter "cut his teeth" on handling up to 6 separate Magistrates Court appearances a day running contested cases requiring cross examination of prosecution witnesses or putting pleas of mitigation of penalty to the Court in those cases where the client was pleading guilty - all with a view of course to trying to obtain the best possible result, or lowest sentence, for the client.

Because of his year's of experience in the field Peter is a member of Victoria Legal Aid's Simplified Grants Panel for Summary Criminal Matters (i.e. Magistrates Court criminal cases), and accordingly Victoria Legal Aid accept his recommendation as to whether the merits of a client's criminal case qualify it for a grant of legal aid.

In those cases that do not qualify for legal aid we are happy to discuss the options available for private payment by the client of our fees.
